On May 22, 2025, on the sidelines of the AU-EU Ministerial Meeting in Brussels, Africa Political Outlook organized a high-level round table that redefined
the contours of the Africa-Europe partnership. Under the theme "Africa-Europe Relations: Agenda and Priorities towards 2050", this meeting brought together key players
from both continents, to co-construct a new architecture for cooperation.
An innovative methodology
The event was structured around five thematic tables, each bearing the names of emblematic African and European figures: Yazami-Curie for science and innovation, Nasser-Schuman for inclusive prosperity, Malraux-Senghor for culture and diasporas, Ahtisaari-Annan for security architecture, and Mandela-Merkel for global dialogue. This symbolic approach anchored the discussions in a shared intellectual heritage, while looking to the future.
Concrete recommendations
Each table made three strategic recommendations. Discussions focused on harnessing the potential of the Congo River through initiatives such as the Hinga dam, deploying artificial intelligence for health and energy in the African context, and strengthening local value chains. The cultural dimension was highlighted through the creation of diasporic leadership platforms, while collective security focused on African-led solutions with European support.
Towards a transformed partnership
The round table demonstrated that beyond ministerial declarations, real co-construction is possible. The recommendations put forward aim to go beyond traditional models of North-South cooperation to establish a partnership of equals, rooted in the complementarities between European expertise and African dynamism. The event illustrates how strategic dialogue can catalyze concrete changes in the architecture of international relations.
