A strategic exchange at the heart of the European Parliament
On June 24, 2025, Adébissi Djogan, President and Founder of Africa Political Outlook, took part in the high-level dialogue organized by the European Think Tanks Group (ETTG), on the theme: " EU development policy at a crossroads: towards a new consensus to support the global development agenda ". Held at the European Parliament's Main Library in Brussels, the meeting brought together European decision-makers, development experts and international players to discuss the current challenges facing the European Union's external action.
A prestigious setting and top-notch speakers
After introductory remarks by Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and Barry Andrews, Chairman of the Development Committee (DEVE), the dialogue opened with a remarkable exchange between Jozef Síkela, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, and Bill Gates, co-founder of the Gates Foundation. This high point provided an opportunity to compare institutional and philanthropic visions on global priorities: food security, global health, energy transition and development financing.
Reaffirming Europe's commitment to renewed multilateralism
Strengthening strategic Euro-African links
This moment of joint reflection reaffirmed Africa's central place in the European development agenda. Echoing the work carried out by the Africa Political Outlook, the need for a structured AU-EU strategic dialogue, driven by the logic of equal partnership, was widely shared. Concrete areas of focus emerged: support for industrial value chains, investment in human capital, and support for institutional transitions.
Towards a clearer, more ambitious European development policy
Adébissi Djogan's participation in this strategic dialogue is in line with the Africa Political Outlook's ongoing mission: to provide European public policy with a reading rooted in African dynamics. The networking cocktail that followed strengthened synergies with representatives of European institutions, international organizations and civil society players committed to the sustainable transformation of the continent.
